All,
I recently purchased a yellow stylophora from the LFS. It was not in the
greatest of shape, but overall not bad at all. Basically some damaged tips
and a couple of other slightly damaged spots on the "body" of the coral. I
got home and placed it about mid way up in the tank under my 55k 175 watt
MH. It is getting pretty serious current. Since adding it, it has been
extending its polyps pretty regularly, except on the tips of the coral. I
have also noticed that it is loosing a bit of the yellow color. A couple of
days ago, I noticed a round spot on one of the branches that looks like
white mold. The spot is slowly getting bigger.

I also have a fluorescent green acro and a green hydnophora that are loosing
color. They are on top of the reef, directly under a 10k 175 watt MH bulb.

In general, I don't really seem to be getting much growth from my SPS
corals. I changed one MH bulb about a month ago (10k to 55k), and am getting
ready to switch my other 10k to a 55k. There is also an additional 400 watts
of VHO lighting, 2-actinic and 2-50/50 bulbs, all of which are about 6
months old.

Water parameters are:
Ph 8.1
Alk 4.6 meqs
Calcium 420 ppm
Nitrate 0
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Salinity 1.024

My questions are:

1. Is this the best position for the stylophora? Too much light?
2. Is the spot possibly a fungal or bacterial infection? If not, does
anyone know what the hell it is?
3. How do I get rid of the spot? Medications? Fresh water dip?
4. Acro - any thoughts on why this may be loosing color? Too much
light? I thought that the fluorescent green acros loved a lot of light.
5. Any thoughts on the genreral lack of growth? I mean, there is hardly
any noticeable growth on these corals from month to month. I have frags that
are about 3 - 4 months old, and have not grown much at all.

TIA everyone...

Shane C.
