Its probably(at 6 weeks old) cyanobacteria forming in the layers of sand. I
like to change water weekly also, but I am just curious why you are changing
so much, lots of cash going to the LFS and literally down the drain. You
really seem to be rushing it by what you mention you have already, take it
slow, the first 6 months to a year the tank is at its most unstable position
and adding everything too fast will spell disaster.
