No, I don't have some weird disease. My pectinia may though, and a trip to
the doctor for a shot of penicillin is out of the question, so here is what
is going on. My pectinia is the variety that is very "meaty" and the tissue
is soft and squishy (normally). It generally swells a bit at night and
extends its feeder tentacles, then during the day, it brings its tentacles
in and brings its tissue in closer to its skeleton. The other day, I noticed
it was not extending its feeder tentacles any more. It went like that for a
couple of days. Then, over the coarse of a day, one section of the coral
REALLY swelled up. I mean, like a balloon. It has been like that since, and
is no longer taking food, which I know is a bad sign. The swelling is only
on one section of the coral, but I am afraid that if I don't figure out what
is causing this, that may change. I did a 25 gallon water change, just in
case it was a water quality issue, and it did not do anything for the
pectinia.
Question is, does anyone know what may cause swelling in these or other
corals like this. I believe it is considered an SPS, but this species is
more like and LPS. Has anyone had anything like this happen with an LPS, and
if so, what caused it?
Water is:
Ammonia:0
Nitrite:0
Nitrate:0
Calcium 420
Alk 4.2 meqs
PH 8.2
Salinity 1.023
TIA,
Shane C.
