Paul,
I don't know about the sizing. I would say, find one sized for your tank,
then double it. I think (I could be wrong) that it would be hard to oversize
a reactor. Your control comes through your flow rates, etc, not the reactor
size. I wouldn't worry about over sizing it, but instead about under sizing
it.
As far as single pass and double pass goes... the double pass units are
supposed to be the way to go. I am assuming by double pass, that you mean 2
chambers for the effluent to pass through. The advantage through a double
pass is that by passing through a second chamber of media, the pH is raised
before entering back into the tank. The media in the second chamber raises
the pH while increasing the calcium and alk even a bit more. If you are
building one, build one with the 2 chamber double pass system...
Sorry I couldn't be more specific...

Subject: Calcuim reactor sizing
Hi all,
About a week ago I asked some questions about changing to from
calcuim
cloride to Kalkwasser. A few of you suggested I go for a calcium
reactor
instead.
So my question now is how do I decide how big this thing should be
if I go
the DIY method.
Single pass or double pass and why one is better ?
TIA,
Paul
