Hello,I'm relatively new to the forum and enjoy reading everybodies
replies, this is my first post so thanks in advance for your help

I just purchased a wells brain coral from my lfs on saturday and today I
noticed some white stringy material where the base and flesh meet, it seems
to be separating. The coral had no signs of this when I purchased it, when
acclimating it never gave off any slime and never noticed any when in the
tank.

I did a water test just before adding the coral alk at 4.0, ph 8.2, calcium
460 sal 1.026 temp 80.I have a 55 gallon with 0ne 96 watt 10k pc and 2 55
watt 50/50 pc.Other corals are mushroom,various zoanthids,moonstone
brain(favites),two kinds of xenias, branching hammer, frogspawn and an unknown
acropora, all doing well.I use a 2-part cal additive daily called Restore
from my LFS,Iodine and strontium every other day.
Is there anything I can do or is it on a slow demise? It appears healthy
otherwise except for about a 2 inch are at the base.

Thanks,
Mike McDonnell
