The trick is to position your powerheads,  or get some more and get them to 
create a current in any potential dead spots.   That way stuff does not pile 
up.  Not sure about other people but I am still fiddling with my setup and 
seeing what different powerhead positions do to the current in the tank 
sometimes it takes a few days to see the full effect espicially in areas that 
have low current.
