Hi there Steve,

I own a Red Sea Calcium Reactor , the big model, and used it in my 70 and
now in my 180 g tank.

It does suffice in mantaining alk at 11 dkh and calcium at 400ppm..

As far as calcium consuption goes, my tank is mainly a soft coral tank,
therefore doesnt "suck up " too much calcium , and for calcium lovers i have
:

2 x Tridacna Maxxima clams ( 3" )
1 x Tridacna Derasa ( 9" ) BIG FAST GROWING MAMA :)
2 x Hydnophora Frags ( show excelent grow )
1 x Open Brain coral, HUGE ( 11" )
1 x Open Brain coral large ( 6" )
2 x Fox Corals ( each 4 " )

Got several sorts of macroalgae growing nicely.

I've used a KNOP calcium reactor, and it sucks. The calcium would stop
rising at 330ppm, and it was a 100g rated reactor in a 70g tank.

I've been hearing good things with the KORALITH calcium reactors, although
never used one.

Do you know where we can access instructions on building one of that design?

HI there,

I've been reading all this messages about the Durso standpipe in the
mailing list ,which seems a recent discovery in the US, but in
Europe
we've been using this system for years.. And we don't use a T and a
Street Ell, we use a Y part, hence making a 45 bank instead a 90 ,
a
more smooth ( and less noisy ) operation.

Hope it helps,

Barry,
I had a noise problem with my overflow as well. The best fix I have
ever
seen for this is a standpipe design called a Durso (I think)
standpipe.
The guy that thought of this is, in my book, a genius and has saved
many
a reefkeepers countless sleepless nights. Try this link below, and
look
for the standpipe design (this is an old link, and I am at work
where
believe it or not, we don't have internet access, otherwise I would
check it first myself). It is truly a thing of beauty! It is cheap,
takes about 10 bucks and fifteen minutes to make. I cant even hear
my
overflow any more, at all.

Good luck,
Shane C.

Reefkeepers:

I'm having a terrible time with my overflow unit. It keeps
making all these
loud gurgling noises. I can't seem to quiet it down! I've
tried using it
with a ball valve, took out the prefilter sponge in the
overflow, and have
tried putting a piece of airline tubing down the drain hose.
So
far nothing
has worked! I'm open for suggestions or would I be better
off
with a
siphonless type of overflow unit such as the one made by
CPR?

Thank you
Barry
