All,

My Banded Bamboo Shark, now about two months old, has been showing some
rather odd feeding preferences. His usual feedings (3 times a week)
include squid, scallops, and Marine Supreme. These are all quickly scarfed
up. On occasion I give the other fish in the tank flake food. When the
flake food is introduced to the tank the shark basically shows absolutely
no interest and doesn't budge an inch. As soon as he catches the scent of
his normal food he goes into a feeding frenzy. Today, for the first time
since I introduced the shark into the tank I offer the cohabitating
Desjardinii tang Seaweed Selects Green Marine Algae. Almost immediately
the shark catches the scent and the feeding frenzy begins. He actually
grabbed onto the piece in my hand and began a rather violent version of
tug-o-war to get it away from me. I let him have it and he proceeded to
try and eat it. This evening, to see if this was just a fluke, I
introduced another small piece of algae. Again he grabbed it and tried to
eat it. Supposedly Seaweed Selects is comprised of 100% marine macro
algae. Maybe there is a relatively high percentage of isopods that get
caught up in the seaweed and processed into the sheets. Has anyone else
seen this behavior with sharks or other carnivorous species?

        Steve
