Gene,your setup is alot like mine I have a 75,   48x18x20.With a 25 gallon sump: total 100 gallon.
Actually the box shape is the ideal in terms of reef.Basically you want a tank which is wide, and not so deep, reason for this more light will reach the corals. The width is better in terms of rock placement, space for fish to swim.Therefor a perfect reef tank is long, wide and not so deep.Remember the more depth you have the more light you need to reach the bottom.I have seen tanks that look terrible because the top is bright and thriving and the bottom is dark and empty.
Your tank is perfect.
As for lighting I have 2 175 watts 10k Mh and 2 55w Pc bulbs 1 10k and 1 actinic. The reason is that the 10 k Aqualine bushke is blue in color.More white blue than blue white.
If I were to do it over again for the same stand I would use a 90 gallon like yours, appearance is better beacause the canopy is farther away from the stand, when you have Mh lighting you have to leave at least 8-10 inches in between the water and lights. So for a 20 high it looks kind of awkward, the top is big compared to stand.

Subject: need feedback please

Hi All

Would like suggestions and feedback as to what lighting you would use for a 90 gallon...Yeah ! hooray...I am finally upgrading to a decent sized tank. This will be a reef and live sand tank with no sump.Just great skimmers from Ron!

My main choices are just using VHO's with Ice Cap Ballast, 50/50 bulbs and some 03's...but I get dreaming ! lol...about having MH also...price is a concern however...and as I am not keeping and hard stony corals just star polyps, frog spawn several types of mushrooms one purple tipped , a bubble anemone, one yellow leather who has done wonders under current lighting, a red open brain, and some feather dusters, I am confused and there is a lot of conflicting information on the list...no no...can't be...lol....? would anyone run MH and PC combination is that good also?

Please all suggestions would be appreciated.
The 90 is odd shaped to me..unless its just been a long time since I have seen such a "box" shaped tank, dimensions are   48 inches long 18 inches wide and 24 inches high...will I have trouble because of its depth?

TIA

Geno
