Sorry to start a contrversial thread but I disagree with  you on the "rule"
there is no set in stone rule for amount of rock used in a tank. As for any "rule" really ppl are doing well with many different setups.
I personally only use about 80lbs in my 120. so that my fish actually have a place to swim and this tank has been setup over 5 years. no fish deaths no coral deaths (except when I nuked them all by adding WAY too much light)
no3 isunder 5ppm po4 is undetectable.
So as your "rule" states I should be using over 100 lbs of rock, but if I did, the tank would be full of rocks, not animals. All I am trying to state is that lets try not to say "rules" as there are alot of beginners on this list that will get confused with a "rule" when someone else says you dont need to do that.
thanks
Dave

Reefkeeping Members:

We have some beautiful Haiti Live Rock, fully cured, which I will sell to
reefkeeping members for $3.00 per pound plus shipping.  This stuff is highly
encrusted with goodies and full of microbes.  If you want a picture of it,
email me.    The rule is a minimum of 1.5 to 2.5 lbs of Atlantic live rock
per gallon of tank capacity - if it is Pacific rock, which is lighter, you
can get by with a minimum of 1 to 1.5 lbs per gallon of  tank capacity.
(Haiti rock is Atlantic rock.)
