Thank you, Derek. We Americans have never been too concerned with how the
world thinks about us. This is part of the problem. Furthermore, many of the
people around the world who hate us are dominated by tyrants, extremely
deprived of physical and emotional freedoms, and are extremely poor and under
educated. There are the classic struggles between the rich and the poor and
the haves and have nots at play in these troubled times. Having said that,
with all our faults, we are extremely gentle and humble people. We are a
giving nation. We are a nation living the dreams of our founders. We are a
moblie and diverse nation. We are America.
History has shown time and again that Americans are not to be controlled by
anything or anyone, even our own government. Rest assured that we are very
well armed individually and prepared to defend our ways of life at any cost.
Islam cannot destroy or control America by fear or force since we have been
unable to self destruct or self control, for that matter, in over two
centuries of this great human experiement.
Millions of American have spilled blood in distant lands during armed
conflicts. The world at large could never argue about our willingness to
sacrifice our lives for the causes of humanity. We have made and will
continue to make mistakes. We are arrogant and decadent at times. We are also
the greatest nation in human history. We are still a government by the people
for the people. Our patriotism is hard to fathom. Some of us feel it is a God
given gift. Our union is strong.
We Americans know who our friends are. You will find Canadians at the top of
the list. I cryed today when I heard our national anthem played at the
changing of the guard in England. (This is a first.) Our friends in Australia
should be on the same line of the list as you Canadians and the Brits. Our
histories are woven permanently together in the fabric of modern humanity. We
have bonds and common interests that cannot be blown up like the grotesque
acts of this week against civilians in a nation of peace.
The acts of war committed against the United States of America this week took
more lives than Pearl Harbor and the Titanic combined. We are in a state of
shock. No society is immune. These atrocities could have happened in Toronto
or Vancouver or Montreal just as easily. All civilized people around the
world should be praying that America will end this threat. I have every
confidence we will do so.
Thank you for your kinds words! May God bless you, your great country, and
the United States of America.
