Jim,
If you can contact the shipper or have the supplier contact the shipper
directly, here is what you can do to increase your chances of suvival.
1. Have them use oversized bags. 2-3 or even 4 times the bag size they would
normally use.
2. Only one specimen per bag.
3. A little over 1/3 of the bag should be filled with water, the rest with
oxygen (preferablly from a tank)
4. Have them attach the specimen to a piece of styrofoam using a toothpick
and rubber bands, and float the specimen upside down in the bag for the
trip.
5. Double bag them.
6. Put them into a box that is very well insulated.
7. Fed ex them directly to you.
The problem you will get is that this will not be easy to get the exporters
to do. Not only that, but it will greatly increase the cost of shipping, it
will however give your xenias a much much better chance at survival than
they would have if shipped like most companies do.
Better yet, get some from someone elses tank. Better survival rate with 2nd,
3rd or 4th generation, and easier to get.
Good luck,
Shane C.
