What else is in your tank, and have you had any death since its start. These
guys are right.Clams need lot of water (volume),especially maxima, these are
also the ones that need the most amount of light. 4 months is definately not
a true means of determining the effectiveness of your lights on the
clam.Your lighting setup is I am afraid to say very weak, could handle soft
coral,those which are hardy.
The lfs where you bought the clam,is most probably adding all kinds of
chemicals in the water to make up for the starving of the clam, there are
products out there to stimulate appetite, growth etc.. usually lfs have tanks
setups which are in line, one tank feeds the other and so on...the single
tank maybe small but the total volume is enormous if it is connected to a
series of tanks.Have seen some lfs keep what they call Nano reefs, upon close
inspection and alot of questions found out that the tank is connected under
the counter to 2000 gallons of water.Small tanks lack the much needed
volume, and are less stable, upon the addition of clams and hard corals you
will offset the biological balance,ph, cal ,alc, thse will get to a point
where they become very instable and when you will try to up one the other
will diminish, you might get 2 up then the other will drop, the leeway of a
small tank is very limited, due to its volume. While we like to add stuff to
our tanks sometimes it is wise to stop and let nature do its work.I am sorry
to say that 4 months is not alot of waiting, especially clams.
Please take my advice and stop while you are ahead. If you are looking for
the long run get alot more volume going, add a huge sump,up your lights to
MH.In the short run the tank looks great, things seem to be thriving, growing
but definately lacking something..
Please don't take this wrong but this was not the best move you made, remedy
the sitution,fast.
If you are really interested in keeping clams I suggest you invest in a book
on clams tlf sells a book by Daniel Knopp called giant clams please buy
it.
In the mean time good luck.
