Most leathers do. It is impossible to tell exactly how often. It really
depends on the tank. It is thought that they do this to ocasionally shed
algae and detritus off thier exterior, and when they shed, the parts that
shed vary. It can be the whole coral. They usually will stop opening for a
while, and then you will notice a transparent waxy skin type stuff coming
off them. Thats the stuff they are shedding. That usually takes a while and
that is when it is important to make sure they are getting plenty of
current. Some people even take a turkey baster and help remove some of the
"skin" by blowing it off with the baster. Once they are done shedding, they
will open right back up and be ready to go until the next time.
