As
others have mentioned the most important factor when adding LR to an existing
tank is curing. This basically means "is there going to be die off that causes a
tank cycle" & in most cases even rock advertised as fully cured will. This
is because the rock is cured where it is collected then shipped damp in a dry
box for a couple days causing more die off. This gives the LFS some merit to
charge more, because they re-cure it for you in their tank. Another option, the
one I prefer, is to buy rock that is kept alive & underwater at all times so
there is little or no die off. This type of rock will have the most life on it
& I recently added 30 pounds from www.tbsaltwater.com ,directly to my
tank with no ill effects (aside from the crab that ate my starfish)& as a
result my rock looks better than that in the the show tank at my LFS. Also
Reefkeeping members were made an offer , that I will attach below, from Coral
Reef Express, you may want to contact them & see if their rock is shipped in
water. If you want to get Fiji rock & cure it yourself www.petwarehouse.com has it on sale for
$99 for 45 lbs.

Reefkeeping Members:
We have some beautiful Haiti Live Rock, fully cured, which I will sell to
reefkeeping members for $3.00 per pound plus shipping. This stuff is highly
encrusted with goodies and full of microbes. If you want a picture of it,
email me. The rule is a minimum of 1.5 to 2.5 lbs of Atlantic live rock
per gallon of tank capacity - if it is Pacific rock, which is lighter, you
can get by with a minimum of 1 to 1.5 lbs per gallon of tank capacity.
(Haiti rock is Atlantic rock.)

Has anyone bought Live Rock from FFE? Was it good quality? I was going to go to a local LFS store this weekend for LR, but think it might be slightly more cost effective to order it. Has anyone had any success with another company for LR?
