You want your outputs at the top of the tank so if the power goes off, the
water does not backflow and overflow the sump. You should be able to shut
the pump off and let the tank drain until the siphon in the output breaks
without overflowing the sump. You can put a small powerhead in the tank
facing up towards the surface to help agitate it, and an output from your
sump pump aimed across the top of the surface of the tank will help as well.
