I have one of them that came in like that as well. One day, at the back of
my reef, I saw these 2 little tiny legs sticking out from under a rock. I
thought "wow, thats cool. Looks like a brittle star". Well, he grew and
grew, quickly, and is now a large brittle star. He lived, for a while, under
my open brain coral, and would rip the food intended for the coral, out of
his mouth or tentacles or whatever. I couldnt feed the open brain, becuase
the damage the star did was not worth it. Finally, he outgrew that spot, and
moved to another rock where my newly aquired anemone lives. Now, he tries to
steal the food from my anemone. I have to stand there with a pair of
tweezers and when he tries to reach the anemone with one of his legs, I have
to lightly grab the leg with the tweezers. He then pulls back for a few
seconds, and then begins again. Little bastard.

He is okay, and so long as there is not damage done to my anemone, I dont
mind him in there, but it is something to be aware of.
