Senior Archives/Records Officer - Full-time US-Washington, DC Job Posting:Nov 20, 2008 - Job Number 0800135 Posting Closing Date:Dec 21, 2008 Senior Archives/Records Officer ( 0800135) Description Serves as a team leader responsible for assisting the Division Chief (or Deputy) in planning, organizing, and managing the work of the unit, and responsible for the day-to-day management of (a) the enterprise records management program, including departmental electronic and paper records and the centralized management of semi-active and vital records, and (b) the IMF's archives reference services for internal and external clients. The team leader is responsible for providing intellectual leadership to the records management and archives reference staff based on the principles, concepts, and best practices of the archives and records management professional discipline. Duties and Responsibilities: • Manages work programs, policies, and operations for enterprise records management and archives reference. In particular, has responsibility for development of the records management program. • Serves as the primary source of expertise in records management for the institution. Develops and oversees the implementation of programs that ensure the accessibility, integrity, authenticity, and security of Fund records throughout their life cycle. Develops and implements file plans and retention schedules, records management policies, and best practices in collaboration with IMF departments. • Manages contracts for offsite semi-active and vital records storage, including on-site vendor labor, and is responsible for communications with and quality control of vendor companies. In connection with the IMF's business continuity program, leads efforts for the continuous identification and safeguarding of records essential to the restoration of normal business operations. • Oversees archives reference services to the public and internal staff, ensuring compliance with the institution's archives access policies and information security policies. Employs professional archival standards in the delivery of reference services to ensure the security and preservation of fragile and/or irreplaceable archival material. Experience: • Knowledge of international standards and best practices in archives and records management as well as electronic records/archives management principles and systems. • Understanding of the records/archives life cycle and the ability to apply appropriate technologies to manage electronic information, as well as a solid grasp of technology developments in the archives/records discipline and the ability to innovate new approaches. • Experience in implementing and managing a centralized records management program in a large organization, including the management of electronic records. Education: Completion of (a) an advanced university degree in records management, documents management, archives management, library and information sciences, or related field of study, plus a minimum of six years of relevant professional experience, or (b) a bachelor's degree in a related field plus professional certification in records management (CRM), supplemented by twelve years of relevant professional experience.
