Hi, I attended the Vancouver intensive UX workshop in November 2007 which as they tell you in the opening session is all about networking. I would say the other thing it's all about is stickies. It was baffling take a 10-minute phone break and come back into the room and see entire walls covered in stickies. Breakout sessions were about designing a new handheld device or other "invention" in 90 minutes. Truly these are exercises in group dynamics. Interestingly, the working sessions were competitive, if that's something you appreciate. Teams are chosen as winners. One of the presenters who was listed never showed up. I guess the gist is whichever Adaptive Path presenter can attend can fill in for any other presenter. This was a major disappointment for me. I felt the presenters were mostly showing us URLs to their favorite sites, favorite quotations and favorite images...for the umpteenth time. I think these workshops are useful for young UX professionals newer to the field, than to veterans, unless there is a need to meet and greet. Quite a few of the attendees at various tables I joined weren't UX professionals, but were attending on behalf of government agencies or other types of unrelated industries whose employees wanted to learn what UX was all about. The energy is good, the people were great. For my needs the content should have been more cutting edge.
