XMPP is an open, real-time messaging protocol which can be used to send asynchronous messages between servers or between IM clients such as Google Talk. It is much more efficient than polling as is commonly done today with http-based api's.
Next Tuesday, March 17th, 3:00-6:30pm at Conjunctured we will be holding a meetup for users of XMPP and people wishing to learn more.
