Award Call for Nominees

Hi Terry, the original message was sent on January 31st. Did it show up
in your inbox yesterday? If so perhaps there was an issue in your mail
server unless others received it as well (?) Please let me know as I
can investigate the issue if it appears to be wide-spread as we'd hate
to have people spammed my old messages.

Thanks,

I'm so confused - why was there a call for nominations yesterday if the
cutoff for nominations was early February? Was that just a

FYI, as the nomination period is over (early February was the cutoff),
make sure you make a note to nominate Matt or any others you feel are
deserving next year. We'll try to stay on top of it and get the word
out when nominations are open.

An obvious choice would be Matt Genovese - founder of Door64.com - He is
the epitome of what this award represents, and I cannot believe he
hasn't been nominated before!

Call for Nominees

Hi Refreshers!

I am coordinating an effort to recognize members of our community who
empower others through the use of technology

Could you please help by nominating yourself, a friend and/or colleague
for The Dewey Winburne Community Service Award?

The timeframe to respond is relatively short (by the end of this week),
but I'm confident that we'll be able to spotlight some great folks!

The criteria and additional info is included below. Please let me know
if you have any questions.

Thanks.

Dewey Winburne Community Service Award Call for Nominees

Do you or does someone you know use technology to empower others?

If so, would you be willing to nominate them as a candidate for this
year's Dewey Winburne Community Service Award that will be ?

The Dewey Winburne Community Service Award, presented during the SXSW
Interactive Festival (www.sxsw.com/interactive), celebrates the vision
that technology is society's most effective tool to bridge the digital
divide.

Criteria

Like the man it honors (described below), the judging criteria is
somewhat open-ended and changeable. Your candidate should:

1. Be involved in some aspect of technology that promotes empowerment

2. Be involved in a hands-on effort-- as opposed to a philanthropist who
largely supports efforts at a financial level

3. Live (or spend a good majority of time) in the Greater Austin/Central
Texas area

4. Not have been previously nominated (see below)

Nomination Form

If you know of a suitable candidate (self-nominations are encouraged),
please e-mail me ([email protected]) by Saturday, February 7th with
as much of the following information as possible:

1. Name of candidate:

2. Contact information for candidate:

3. URL of this candidate's organization:

4. URL of articles/media reports about this candidate:

5. Why you think this candidate is a worthy nominee (in 50 words or
less):

6. Your relationship with this candidate:

About Dewey Winburne

Dewey Winburne <http://www.patrickcurry.com/dewey/> served as one of
the original co-founders of the event that we now know as the SXSW
Interactive Festival. A man of tremendous energy and vision, he imagined
this event would come to highlight people who combined technological
innovation with massive creativity. Years later, this vision has proven
to be remarkably accurate, as SXSW Interactive has evolved as an
international mecca for trend-setting creative thinkers.

Teaching multimedia skills to teenagers, particularly teens of
low-income and minority descent, was one of the great passions in
Dewey's life. Many of the students who gained their initial new media
training from him have gone on to achieve incredible careers in the
local and national tech community.
