Hi Refresh! This is a terrific program that happens once a year. In
the past, there have even been Refresh Austin teams. If you'd like to
learn more, feel free to ask me or Refresh organizers Alex Jones or
Pat Ramsey, who have both served on the AIR-Austin advisory board.

hours of web accessibility training and possibly even win an award…
All while helping a nonprofit in need! Participate in AIR-Austin 2009.
The Accessibility Internet Rally in Austin (AIR-Austin) is a unique,
award-winning local program that matches teams of Web designers and
developers with non-profit organizations to improve technological
accessibility for all people.
Held in Austin annually since 1998, national media, legislative bodies
and philanthropic foundations have recognized and commended the
program’s innovation and excellence. AIR-Austin was developed by the
nonprofit organization Knowbility, whose mission is to support the
independence of children and adults with disabilities by promoting
accessible information technology.
You will learn about accessibility through a series of training and
networking activities. Your team is then matched to a non-profit group
in need of Web development assistance. After a two-week planning
period, the teams and their non-profit clients will assemble on
October 24 for a high-energy workday to complete the new accessible
Web sites. An expert panel of judges will then review the resulting
entries based on updated requirements for this year’s competition.
Winners will be recognized at a high-profile awards party.
For a small $100 entry fee, developers participating in AIR-Austin
get:
* Training on the tools, techniques and standards that make the
internet accessible, including forms, scripting, multimedia and more
* Experience in how to meet emerging government mandates
* Public recognition at AIR-Austin events
* The opportunity to help a nonprofit in need
The deadline to register is September 20, 2009.
