Hi Vale! I've attached my few cents to this. Hope it helps!

>From a consumer brand / image perspective, engaging another sense beyond
just visual is a tricky topic.

Personally, I'm not a fan of hearing anything that reminds me of
"Congratulations, You've won a free iPod ####" That said, if I hovered
over a banner and what I heard was something iconic but not overwhelming
(think clean, crisp, representative of the mood/theme of the company, then
every time I heard either that sound or something quite similar, I would (or
consumers in general) be more likely remember your brand.

Also keep in mind the types of speakers most people have attached to their
computer. If people just have their laptop volume on, then avoid
high-pitch/frequency sounds as they sound tinny and ear-splitting. If their
computers are attached to speakers and they've accidentally left the volume
up, the last thing you want is to embarrass them around co-workers with a
loud obtrusive sound. Incidentally, this is how many recording studios
have had to unfortunately master tracks - accommodating for headphones and
laptop speakers.

Those are my five cents ;)
