Hi all,

I've been meaning to respond to this post, but have been waiting until I had
working examples of Typekit. Right now I have FF Dagny and FF Meta Serif
working on LogicalThings.com for page headers, sub-headers and sidebar copy
and then Bella Pro and BigSmalls Bold for the blog title, subtitle and
sidebar headers on CrateDiggersGold.com.

My experiences thus far:

   - Rendering issues are rampant with some fonts virtually unreadable on
certain browser/os combinations. The big lesson here: paper renders
different from pixels -- most of those fonts will need to be retooled for
use on the web. Also (big shocker here) not every browser engine renders the
same font the same way (on every os). Woe is us!
   - JS issues are causing intermittent failures on Safari/Windows (
http://twitpic.com/q5gvz). Typekit is aware of this and other Safari
issues and is working on the problem.
   - Character width seems to be a major factor when deciding where to use a
Typekit font since your fallback CSS stack will likely use Arial, Georgia or
one of the other five reliable browser fonts. If you design your page, say
in a sidebar, to use a condensed webfont and someone with an older version
of FF, IE or Safari hits your page, those sidebar headers will wrap and
   affect your design.
   - There are not a whole lot of webfont options for readable body text and
thus I have left mine either Arial or Verdana as I know those will always be
   readable.

All that being said, I'm still using them albeit in a conservative manner so
that I don't have to worry about users with ancient browsers. What are your
experiences? Have you learned anything that might shed some light? I'm
interested in hearing your story.

Cheers,

Art Thompson, Jr.
