Refresh Austin,

What could be more tempting than:

   - The international expert (and SXSW speaker) Chris Mills
   - Talking about the Open Web
   - and Cookies from Tiff’s Treats?

Mark your calendars for:
*
Event/Tech Talk:* Open Web: A better web for a better world
*Speaker:* Chris Mills, Web Evangelist, Opera Software
*Date:* Wednesday, March 10, 2010
*Time:* 7:30pm to 8:30pm
*Location:* Welch 2.304 (on the UT Campus, southwest corner of 24th and
Speedway) http://www.utexas.edu/maps/main/buildings/wel.html

*Description:* Technology in general never ceases to advance, and web
technologies are no different. But the Web isn't as simple as other
development environments because you can't guarantee the runtime, ie what
web browser your site visitors will be using. Browser rendering differences
in well-established technologies sometimes still cause us difficulties, so
how do we start using new technologies like HTML5 and CSS3? How do we learn
them, and what can we use now? In this talk, Opera web standards evangelist
Chris Mills answers these questions and more. Join him for a jolly good chat
about web tech and whatever else you want to talk about.

*Bio: * Chris Mills works for Opera (the Viking web browser vendor),
splitting his time between evangelising Opera’s software and web standards,
and heading up Opera’s developer education activities. This last part
includes speaking at conferences, publishing regular web design and
development articles on dev.opera.com, and being the creator of the Opera
Web Standards Curriculum (http://www.opera/com/wsc).

He is a self-confessed web geek and English language geek, having worked in
various geek education roles for the last 8 or 9 years. Outside of work,
Chris is a heavy metal warrior, playing really fast drums for many bands,
including the mighty Conquest of Steel. He lives in grimy Oldham with his
lovely girlfriend Kirsty, son Gabriel, baby daughter Elva, and 3 Macs.

Spread the word, and I hope to see you there!
