Using a file converter is an option if you don't mind the added a
step. I use a batch conversion program called Switch Sound File
Converter that will convert to and from any format. Just be aware
that when you convert a WMA (or any other compressed file format)
into another, more friendly format you will lose some quality
because the file needs to be decompressed and then re-compressed
into the new format. Think of it as a copy of a copy versus the
original recording. If you go this route, I suggest you convert the
files to an uncompressed format like WAV to edit the files and then
save them as MP3 or whatever format you need. Depending on what the
content is, you might not even notice it. I just wanted to make sure
you knew about this before the head scratch came on...

Hi Jan,
Any reputable audio editing software should allow you to edit and work
with WMA files. I recommend Audacity, which I believe is open source.
Just search for it and it should be at the top of the results. Hope
this helps.
