Yea, I had a similar situation a while back where I was contracted by A to do work for B. About 7 months later someone stating to be from B sent me an email. I had never had any contact with this person. He was asking me to provide information about one of the people in the database. Although the email address was from the correct organization, I contacted A to verify it before going forward. Turns out B was contacted by the police when someone that had registered on the website had turned up missing and B was a valid contact.
You never know what sort of information or support you will have to give to your clients. Hard to tell when you really need to do that extra follow up and when you don't unfortunately.
