*Why Come: *Most of us take computers for granted in our daily lives. Often
we think the whole idea began with Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, and a few others
of the presently rich and famous. But we would not have laptops or Facebook
or YouTube without the hard work and brave efforts of people going back
hundreds of years, from dreamers ahead of their time like Charles Babbage to
hard-sell marketers like the builder of IBM, Thomas Watson, Senior. The
story of the rise of the computer industry includes many more amazing and
surprising characters and truly awesome machines (from ENIAC to ALTAIR) and
ideas. Come join us for this lively, visual, and informative trip through
the history that led us to where we are today.

The presentation, which is free and open to the public is sponsored by the
AT&T Center and the Herb Kelleher Center for Entrepreneurship at the
University of Texas at Austin. It will be preceded by a cash bar and free
appetizers at 6PM; the talk will start at 7PM, followed by discussion.
