Several months back, we decided to host a PHP study group. Because we didn't have an instructor at the time, this was to be a study group and not a formal class. Despite the fact that we didn't promote it heavily, we ended up with roughly 60 people who wanted to participate in the PHP group. Although the regular GeekAustin classes frequently have 40-60 attendees, we've never hosted a study group with more than 15 members. After a few sessions, we realized that a study group of this size was unworkable.
So, we decided to seek out an instructor and offer a proper beginning PHP class. I'm happy to report that Josh Butts <http://www.linkedin.com/in/joshbutts>, a Zend Certified Engineer<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zend_Certified_Engineer>and leader of the Austin PHP Meetup <http://www.meetup.com/austinphp/>, has agreed to lead the PHP class. The class is tentatively scheduled to begin in November and will meet Wednesday nights for 10 weeks (excluding holidays) at Cospace. Because we offer these classes primarily as a community service, we are only charging $70 for the class. (Yes, that's $70 for all 10 sessions). We are currently working with Josh on the course outline. The curriculum will be adjusted as we go -- to meet the needs of the attendees. Suffice it to say, you'll need an understanding of basic html (links, lists, forms, tables, frames) to succeed in the class.
