Hi Pat, from what I've heard, Google isn't shutting down groups, though they are dropping support for file uploads and pages, which we don't really use. They're steering people to Google Sites for that functionality and have said that the change is to help them focus on e mailing list/forum functionality which is our core usage. So at this point we have no plans to migrate.
Please let me know if I've missed something or if you have additional info.
