Hey Refreshers,

I've been experimenting with various plugins and scripts to extend Google
Analytics for tracking various behaviors like external link clicks,
non-HTML file downloads and other trackable events and wanted to share this
handy jQuery-based script by Joe Christopher of Blast Advanced Media:

http://www.blastam.com/blog/index.php/2011/04/how-to-track-downloads-in-google-analytics/

Before finding this, I was having to manually add tracking code to each URL
or file I wanted to track. Some of my clients regularly have pages with
multiple sponsors that they'd like to track clicks to. Joe's script is a
catch-all solution for tracking file downloads and external and mailto link
clicks. Reporting is available in the Content > Events section of Google
Analytics.

Hope someone else finds this as useful and time-saving as I have. Please
forgive the repost on WordPress Austin, but I know some folks there will be
interested as well.

Cheers,
