If so, one non-profit has an idea for what you can do with your old machine. Goodwill Computer Works and Green Bank have teamed up for a computer drive this holiday season. They are asking for your unneeded computers and any accessories. "It's an opportunity to keep computers out of the landfills and with our green message as Green Bank it's important to us," said Bruce Irick, Austin Market President for Green Bank. The electronics in the Computer Works store put people to work which is the mission of Goodwill. "The store wouldn't survive without donations from the community," explained Computer Works Executive Director Jeff Kendall. The drive also gives people a chance to recycle what may just be sitting around. Even if your computer isn't working, the technicians at Computer Works can take the machine apart and build a device that will work. Each month Computer Works keeps 250 tons of electronics from going to the landfill. Looking for a last minute Christmas gift? Refurbished computers start around $70 and run up to $300. The rescued technology is an affordable alternative to a brand new computer. "The timing of this drive is fabulous. With Christmas right around the corner and people getting new computers what better thing to do with your old computer. Bring them to Goodwill because we can turn your old technology into jobs," said Kendall. If you are concerned about any of the personal information that you have on your old computer the technicians at Computer Works put each computer through an extensive three level data destruction process and wipe the hard drive. They have never had a data leak and have been doing this since 1997. The holiday computer recycling drive lasts until January 6th, but you can always don't your computers year round. You can drop computers off at any Goodwill location.
