GeekAustin has been trying for several years to get Josh Koenig, Co-founder
and Head of Developer Experience at Pantheon, to come to Austin and share
his thoughts on open source, scalability, and the future of web hosting
(Hint: hosting is dead). Finally it's happening.

WordPress and OpenSource frameworks will take over the web.

When I first asked Josh to speak, I told him that Austin has one of the
largestWordPress communities in the country. Josh said that he'd love to
talk about how open source frameworks like WordPress are starting to power
a tidal wave of SaaS businesses -- and what is making that possible.
Currently such frameworks power about 20% of the web. Josh and his
co-founders at Pantheon believe that number will soon be 80%. In his talk,
Josh will explain how a revitalized PHP core, a growing developer
community, and new innovations in infrastructure are among the things that
will make it happen.

Some of the topics to be included in Josh's talk will be workflow (an
emerging topic in the WP community), version control and advanced dev
tactics. scaling wordpress effectively, and how to building a working
OpenSaaS model.

Although this talk is specifically organized for the WordPress community,
if you're interested in scalability, workflow, or an advocate of open
source, you'll find Josh tremendously engaging.

About Josh Koenig

As co-founder of DeanSpace, which helped propel Howard Dean's presidential
campaign into the national spotlight, Josh Koenig (blog) early on
demonstrated his knack for developing/facilitating software tools in the
service of community and and individual empowerment. As one of the very
early users (#3133) and advocates of Drupal, Josh co-founded the Drupal
Dojo, an online learning community for Drupal developers. As Co-founder/CTO
of Chapter Three, one of the premier Drupal agencies in the country, Josh and
his co-founders became increasingly interested devtools in simplifying the
process of launching websites. This led to the founding of Pantheon - a
company devoted to freeing websites from the constraints of traditional
hosting architecture.
