Hello,
My name is Garima Singh and I am a rising Junior at Westwood High School in Austin. I wanted to reach out to this group about an opportunity to volunteer with a coding club for girls. I have applied to an organization called *Girls Who Code* <http://www.girlswhocode.com/> to start a club at my school, Westwood High School. They need Volunteer Instructors to teach the girls. Since this is the first year Girls Who Code Clubs are starting and Girls Who Code does not have a network in Austin, we do need some help finding instructors and we need them quick! We have until August 22nd to get instructors. The club is at Westwood High School in Austin, TX. It will be once every week 4:30-6pm from Sept 15 to April 30. The tentative day is Monday (on Mondays that are a holiday, the club will meet on Wednesday). Since the time commitment is a lot for one person to take on, we would like 2-4 instructors to share the commitment. Here are Girls Who Code’s requirements for a Volunteer Instructor: Proficient in back-end programming language, intermediate knowledge of data structures and algorithms. Ideal candidates include (but are not limited to): - Current software developers - Former software developers - Current undergraduate CS major or minors - Current graduate CS majors or minors To qualify to teach a Girls Who Code Club, instructors must have at least the equivalent of 3 courses of college-level Computer Science education. Advanced knowledge of at least one programming language. HTML and CSS do not qualify as programming languages. Intermediate level of experience with basic data structures. Examples include linked lists, stacks, queues, trees, graphs, etc. Intermediate level of experience with common algorithms. Examples include sorting, graph search, binary search, etc. There is a form to fill out if you are interested in being a Volunteer Instructor: http://www.tfaforms.com/326440 Please put the following information in the form, if asked for: Name of School or Organization: Westwood High School Location of School or Organization: Austin, TX Name of Contact at School or Organization: Garima Singh Contact Email Address: garimasingh2...@gmail.com Contact Phone Number: 512-673-0955 Once you are signed on as an instructor, Girls Who Code should contact you to give you a 2-3 hour online training.
