Description:
------------
Gaupol is a subtitle editor for text based (as opposed to image based)
subtitle formats. Currently supported formats are SubRip and MicroDVD.
The GUI will resemble greatly that of text editors, with the exception that
Gaupol will have a list in place of the text area. Functionality is simply
reading, editing and writing text files.
Major planned features:
- Conversions between different subtitle formats
- Splitting and joining subtitle files
- Convenient translating
- Search, search and replace
- Spellchecking
- Retiming (shifting, adjusting, lenghtening, shortening)
- Framerate conversions
- Checking texts for errors (mostly OCR errors)
- Splitting and joining text lines
- Removing hearing impaired subtitles
Gaupol is written in Python, with a GTK+ GUI written in PyGTK. Gaupol is
tested to run on Linux, but should run on any Unix-like OS and maybe even
Windows and Mac.
In addition to Python and PyGTK there is an optional dependency of Psyco.
Implementing spell-check will introduce a new optional dependency of a
spell-check package, probably PyEnchant.
I am planning to move Gaupol from SourceForge to Gna!. Current source code is
available at http://sourceforge.net/cvs/?group_id=141093 and the SourceForge
project page is at http://sourceforge.net/projects/gaupol.
Other Software Required:
------------------------
Current dependencies:
PyGTK (with libglade support)
Psyco (optional)
Possible future dependencies:
PyEnchant (optional)
