The GP2X is one of the few free software handheld devices on the market, when
I bought mine I thought the user interface (launcher) was fairly simple and
could be improved a great deal. There are other free software launchers
available: gmenu2x is one of the them. My launcher looks very much like the
launcher developed by Sony for the PlayStation Portable, and is currently
working fairly well even though I have only worked on it for a couple of
weeks.
The software is built using the ooPo's GCC toolchain available from:
http://dev.oopo.net/ and on top of that libSDL, SDL_*, libmad, libvorbis and
other various Free Software libraries.
My project uses the GPLv2 license but I will probably move to the v3 as soon
as it has been released.
