Atractrange is a small application converting video input from a video4linux
device (using http://antonym.org/libfg/ ) to sound it outputs using jack (
http://jackaudio.org/ ). It also displays video input and various stages of
video analysis allowing for a nice fractal video loop effect. Future release
might include better algorithms, MIDI and OSC output, xv and directfb video
output, libao audio output.
It is released under GNU GPL Version 2 with the EXCEPTION that the software
and all parts of it may NEVER BE USED FOR ANY MILITARY, VIDEO SURVEILLANCE
AND OBJECT TRACKING PURPOSE, whether it be research or not, commercial or
otherwise. Please see file COPYRIGHT for details.
I wish to include this restriction because I don't wants to see my code used
to restrict peoples freedom, and the risk is high with video analysis
software.
I believe this exception to GPL should be accepted, and that concerns about
the potential misuse of video analysis code is probably frying out free
software developers from enhancing computer vision abilities of their
GNU/Linux system. What do you think about it ?
