==== Description: ====
AutoShare is an experimental peer-to-peer communication channel using ad-hoc,
self-healing and secure peer to peer networks. No central servers or trackers
are utilized.
Unlike the project name may indicate, this program can also be used to other
kinds of messaging that file sharing, like for instant messaging. However,
the file sharing is the major part, originally intended for sharing photo
albums and other personal data that I personally wouldn't to post to a
public, propertiary web site with fuzzy licenses.
This file sharing works by having a shared folder, the contents of which sent
to each other group member. This sending can only happen when at least 2 group
members are online at the same time. So the files get pushed through the
network of friends who are online at the same time until they reach every
member.
If the IP address of a member changes, he can inform others about the change.
Information about the changed IP then propagates through the group members.
This information, as well as other identified data, is integrity secured by
signing it with the person's private key. The public key of a person acts as
their identity. In case of identity collision, a member can change their key
pair, but has to join the group again afterwards.
The code is currently hosted by SourceForge:
https://autoshare.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/autoshare
It uses only Java and (L)GPL libraries. So it's totally platform independent,
but requires a system tray to work.
==== Other Software Required: ====
Currently only Apache Commons Codec.
