==== Description: ====
GUG LA is the GNU Users Group of Los Angeles, located in California, USA.
Objectives include the networking of local GNU hackers, participation in GNU
projects, and promotion of free software. The initial aim of the project
will to be the creation of a GNU space at UCLA.
While this project will not have code to begin with, the first of many GNU
manuals has been started by GUG-LA: "Guidelines for Creating GNU Spaces".
It is written using Texinfo and is a guide for how and why to create a GNU
space, a place for hackers to collect, collaborate and innovate using GNU
standards and technology.
==== Other Comments: ====
My career was made possible through my experimentation with GNU software in
the late 1990s. Because of that experience, I learned skills that would carry
me through my career. As a way to return the favor, I have encouraged the use
of free software and the GNU software collection at every opportunity. The
bulk of my involvement with GNU and the FSF is at the activist level,
identifying methods to improve some facet of society through the use of free
software. As part of that activity, I formed this GNU Users Group in my
hometown of Los Angeles, California. While I currently work for UCLA and am
joined by many GNU hackers from UCLA, both students and staff, GUG LA is not
affiliated with UCLA, or tied to it. My goal is to nurture a healthy GUG that
will host many leaders down the road.
