Hmm sorry for wasting your time :s
I realised now by looking more into it, that the problem was actually caused by
the website providing a different webpage for the wget 'crawler' than it would
for a browser request...
trying:
wget -r
http://stereo-ssc.nascom.nasa.gov/browse/2010/01/01/behind/euvi/195/2048/
through wget it doesn't return the page that you get from the browser.
