Mark, since you already have a custom kernel package with your local changes, it stands to reason that you already have a patched kernel tree on your system somewhere. If that's the case, simply apply the patch from this bug and rebuild your package. I use make-kpkg but I've been told there are more Ubuntu-like ways of building the kernel.
