In lucid, I have been able to work around this by adding channels manually to my ~/.xchat2/servlist_.conf file. Apparently this has been patched upstream ( http://xchat.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/xchat/src/fe- gtk/servlistgui.c?view=log&pathrev=1367 ) hopefully the xchat package will be updated soon.
