I just experienced this problem in a fresh install of Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid. I am from Brazil and the main sourceforge download mirror here is ufpr.dl.sourceforge.net. I had to REDIRECT it to kent.dl.sourceforge.net IP (212.219.56.167) using the /etc/hosts file get it to work. Just though this could help someone from Brasil. Thanks.
