I'm seeing this problem on Lucid 10.04.1 on a 64 bit machine with an SSD. Prior to seeing this issue my drive was reported read-only due to encryption errors, and a reboot resulted in the error reported here.
No logs are available from the "read-only due to encryption errors" problem, because the the logs were not written...
