I can confirm that this does not work anymore? I tried the fix today on Lucid Lynx x64.
Also, another strange thing is that sometimes (well, most off the time) the light indicates that touchpad is on, but when i press the button (so the light turns on), the bubble notifier tells me i enabled it.
