I've tried following the instructions provided by Omer Akram, but having no luck, as per comment #5. Since GRUB now loads Windows XP or Ubuntu Netbook Edition, both operating systems nearly always reboot straight away on the first attempt, then boot up fine.
When I only had Windows XP installed, I never had any problems with it rebooting the computer straight away on startup.
