finally, purging / reinstalling all the related installed xapian packages, have fixed this issue on my end: updated i386 maverick with apt-xapian-index 0.38ubuntu1
i've to say that a bunch of python files have been purged/reinstalled too, so i cant say if this issue is related to one of the python file or not.
