I installed Mythbuntu 10.04 a few weeks ago and I believe I am affected by this bug as well. I configured Mythvideo to use 'Internal' player and made sure the drive path is correct. The issue appears to be with the Internal player because vlc successfully plays the DVD on the same machine.
Steps... Use 'Play DVD' in Mythbuntu menu to watch a DVD movie inserted into DVD drive. Symptom Black/blank screen. DVD drive (green) light appears/flashes. Video never begins. Use terminal to kill mythfrontend.
