(from the supported printers page for the laserjet pro m1212nf):

Item Description
Minimum HPLIP version 3.10.4
Support level Full (See note11.)
Recommended? Yes (See note15.)

15"Recommended" means that the printer is fully supported in HPLIP and
is recommended for use on your Linux system. For information of what
"fully supported" means, see this KB article.

"Full":
All device functions and features which are available from HPLIP are supported,
provided your device supports these features. HP personnel monitor Launchpad
forum posts and attempt (but cannot guarantee) to answer questions posted for
this support class.
See this KB article for full list of HPLIP features.

In the list of HPLIP features:
Automatic document feeder (ADF) scanning.

Like Adam, I researched this printer before purchasing. I checked to make sure
that the scanner and the ADF was listed as supported, and had it not been
supported, I would not have purchased the printer. Thus, it was somewhat
frustrating when, once I started reporting problems, I was told that they were
recognized bugs. I understand that open-source software is written by
volunteers, and that not everything will be supported perfectly. I just would
like to suggest that until these bugs can be fixed, the printer should probably
not be listed as fully supported, to prevent others from buying the printer and
then being surprised by the problems.
