Yes, it is reproducible. When you have a newly installed Ubuntu, you can run the System -> Administration -> System Testing and see that the mic test fails because you cannot hear what you recorded. Of course, you can run any sound recording program and verify it also. I am not facing this problem now; but I am sorry to say that I don't know how the problem got resolved.
